I’m not going to trivialize this by saying “holy fucking hell.” I am surprised and thrilled in ways that I’m not fully able to express. This is not a drill. You can get 8+ games playable on Nintendo consoles for $10.
SURPRISE: it was funded in less than twelve hours
Guys, remember swordorwhip.com? We talked about it on last week’s podcast, come on guys. Earlier today, the heavy implications set forth by that website were realized in the form of yet another Kick Starter by a famous, but now rogue video game designer.
Koji Igarashi and his team got the masses to fund Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which they are calling “An exploration-focused, side-scrolling platformer featuring RPG and crafting elements.” Better known to everyone else as a “straight-up Castlevania game.” Which I am not saying is a bad thing. Quite the opposite. I love the newer Castlevania games and the way they blend platforming and 2D action with item collecting, leveling up, platforming, exploration, and boss slaying. If this game is half the game Symphony of the Night is, it’s already worth the million bucks.
More specifically, £721,089. My currency exchange game is not strong, but I think that’s just over a million bucks. FYI, they were asking for £175,000, and still have 45 days left before the campaign ends. They’ve met all but three stretch goals, and how could they possibly not get to £1,000,000 in the next month and a half?
When Ryan and I discussed Playtonic’s new game many weeks ago, I guessed that there would be a Kickstarter. Boy, was I right. Check this shit out.
A poster on the Smash Bros subreddit, shinyquagsire23, detailed in a recent post all the info he “data mined” from the new update that reached Super Smash Brothers for Nintendo 3DS that added the existence of DLC characters. OMG you guys you won’t believe what he found. SOUND CLIPS
Victory themes for Lucas and Mewtwo, obviously, were found in the update, but so were two victory themes, one labeled Roy, and the other Ryu. Roy being added as a DLC character is not too far fetched, but we may be jumping to conclusions to say that Ryu is next up. Sure, it’s possible, but there’s no way that’s the logical conclusion. There was also stage music found for his stage from Street Fighter 2, sounding almost ripped from the original cartridge. Most logical explanation, a retro-inspired street fighter stage and a Ryu Mii outfit that changes your victory theme. Nothing to see here, move along.
Oh and yeah, Roy. Cool, sure. Let’s all pay $5 for another Marth clone.
In Destiny, the two existing raids represent the greatest challenges and most unique experiences the game has to offer, with rare and unique equipment your prizes for you and the other five members of your fire team if you can overcome the hurdles before you.
But I wouldn’t know anything about that.
Nevermind is a horror game that claims to change based on how scared you are, measured by a biofeedback device (sold separately). The creators say the game will offer the following features:
- Cutting edge biofeedback-enhanced gameplay
- A new, accessible take on horror-adventure games
- Surreal, abstract mindscapes filled with secrets to unearth and puzzles to solve
- Helps players practice techniques to manage everyday feelings of stress and anxiety
A fascinating concept indeed. Especially the last part. I wonder if there’s actual educational elements or if it’s a “trial by fire” situation.
Check out the trailer.
